Inventor Jerome Case established the business of CASE in Racine, when he began the building of threshing machinery. Later the company gained recognition globally as the first manufacturer of steam engines for its agricultural application. Eventually, the business grew to become the world's largest producers of steam engines.
Case had established themselves in the construction machine industry by 1912. They became a producer of road building machinery including steam rollers and road graders. Case grew their construction machine business through various acquisitions, beginning with the American Tractor Corporation in 1957. Case had expanded their business by the middle part of the 1990s to become the leading producer of medium-sized to light-sized construction machines.
During the year 1999, Case merged with New Holland to become CNH Global. This business became responsible for marketing some of the top brands of construction and agricultural machines in the world.
