Propane cylinders are designed to take up really little space and can be kept inside the storage area or in an outdoor facility. It does take some time to switch out a propane cylinder, though, it still does require knowledge of safety standards such as the Occupational Health and Safety Administration or OSHA and also requires operator training in order to be performed safely.
IC forklifts are easier and faster to refuel, compared to electric forklifts, but the internal combustion or IC engines create major air-polluting emissions and are extremely noisy.
NARROW-AISLE LIFT TRUCKS
The ITA's Class 2 trucks consist of a large variety of electric lift trucks and these are specially designed to be used in narrow aisles. The standard storage aisles are 12 feet wide, and this easily allows a counterbalanced lift truck to turn in the aisle and put a load away. Normally, narrow aisles are 8 feet wide, while the very narrow aisles are roughly 5.5 to 6 feet wide. These narrow aisles require specialized lift trucks that are capable of putting away cargo without any turning at all or that are small enough to turn on a tight radius.
The three most common narrow aisle lift trucks are the order pickers, reach trucks and turret trucks. The differences among these trucks are discussed below.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Trucks
The conventional reach truck is the original narrow-aisle lift truck and these machines do not need a counterweight. They are also small enough to turn around in narrow aisles. Instead, stability is provided by the outrigger arms that extend in front of the trucks. Nevertheless, depending on the storage configuration, these outrigger arms can prevent the trucks from getting near enough to the storage rack to deposit and retrieve loads. To be able to overcome this situation, a pantograph was designed. The pantograph is a reach truck which is designed with a telescoping mechanism. This allows forks to reach into storage locations concisely and easily.
The best environment for narrow aisle lift trucks is a place which has good lighting, clean floors and well maintained floor, good traffic flow, along with sufficient turning space.
