Forklift Classifications
Below are the classes of forklifts which describe the use and fuel option of each type of forklift. Certification is needed for every class of forklift which the operator will be utilizing.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either pneumatic tires or cushion tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested during dry conditions for outdoor application. The models with cushion tires are made for indoor surfaces which are smooth. These are electrically powered vehicles that make use of industrial batteries, that make them suitable within closed locations where the quality of air is an issue. Hoist functions and travel are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units commonly utilized everywhere from the loading dock to the storage facility.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This particular forklift is recommended for environments where narrow aisles have to be negotiated. They are efficient at making the most of storage space. Their unique design makes them ideal for small spaces and where speed is required.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These hand-controlled, battery-powered models are designed for the operator to stand in front of the truck and control the lift utilizing a steering tiller. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved sideways in order to maneuver the vehicle. The units that have smaller capacity use industrial batteries.
