Lift trucks, when utilized in indoor applications, are typically operated on cushioned tires that are made out of solid rubber. The pneumatic style of tires is the ideal option outdoors. Pneumatic tires are common for heavy cargo and could be used on asphalt surfaces and on dirt roads.

For the most part, propane powered machinery is believed to be safe. Propane has the reputation for being a clean burning fuel source. If the engine or equipment is not maintained or tuned up properly, then the propane powered engine could produce carbon monoxide or CO, along with other caustic oxides of nitrogen. Any internal engine that is not in optional working form may result in a similar situation. These gases which are emitted can be really noxious within incorrectly ventilated or confined spaces.

Propane models produce less harmful gases than diesel and gasoline powered lift trucks. The chemical structure of propane is rather simple. Since it is a gas, propane burns at a low temperature and mixes really well with air, as opposed to diesel or gasoline. Caustic oxides of nitrogen created during propane combustion in the engine are less than those produced by a diesel or gas engine. Hence, the engine of a propane lift truck typically lasts a lot longer than a gasoline or diesel powered lift truck unit.

With an internal combustion engine, air is sucked into it from the surrounding area. This air is what causes the fuel to burn. A 60 horse-power lift truck must breath in 5000 cubic feet of air for every minute in order to operate. Prior to operation, it is better to switch on a propane lift truck outside and let it warm up for a bit. This is due to the carbon monoxide emissions since they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or machinery and become less potent once the equipment has had a chance to warm up.

It is important to remember that battery powered or electric forklifts could not be utilized outdoors in the rain for fear of battery damage if they get wet. A hazardous situation could occur as an electric forklift can short out because of rainwater getting in.

On the other hand, propane forklifts work really well in the rain. The propane is stored in the on-board well sealed tanks. This means there is no chance of a rainstorm interrupting the work of a driver. Propane forklifts are really versatile and can be utilized both outdoors and indoors. Gasoline and diesel powered forklifts could suffocate you accidentally with harmful gases if they are utilized indoors. A correctly tuned up and well maintained forklift is really a great way to safely and effectively handle your loads.
