A stock picker, also called an order picker is a machinery that is somewhat similar to a forklift. It allows the driver to utilize forks to pick up a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain items, and this feature is something the lift truck does not offer. Normally, order pickers are operated by electricity. These machinery are mostly utilized in a warehouse setting. Most often they are used for transporting pallets and completing particular jobs in the stocking and shelving department.
The order picker operator sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the machine forward, backward or steer it from side to side. When the operator has positioned the unit in place the tines can be lifted up to the required level which makes it really convenient for the operator. Like for instance, if the materials required, are situated on a shelf that the operator cannot reach, then entire platform can be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight located at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
After the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker could be driven to its next load. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker while the platform is raised, however, some businesses might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker is also able to place pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers can be used to finish these particular tasks at several companies instead.
