Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on an extendable, straight arm that is located on a rotating turntable. Typically, telescoping boom lifts are used for tasks which require reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for instance, workers are able to perform exterior repairs or renovations on medium sized buildings but utilizing these lifts as opposed to having the extra work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift is only designed to hold a single person. These buckets are better suitable to particular jobs like electrical repair, as opposed to general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are available in gas or electric configurations and are available with both indoor and outdoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces underneath the work platform. These braces squeeze together to be able to push the platform straight up. Since these machines must be positioned directly below the work site, these units are way more limited in their use as opposed to boom lifts.
The scissor lift normally has a larger platform which enables the operator to control the lift to access a bigger work area once the lift platform is raised off the ground. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these models, as they must sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are great for being utilized for cladding or window installation, because they provide the personnel with the desired mobility; they are also a good alternative for window cleaning applications or exterior repairs.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle usually used to lift employees for different tasks performed at heights. Typically, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and operates the machinery. There is a bucket for where the employee can stand along with a winch for carrying and an actuator arm for raising the boom.
Boom trucks take employees to heights that would usually be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to raise heavy materials or equipment from one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types which could carry out a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of machines excel at various jobs and are suitable for certain applications and finishing certain tasks.
